My father, Walter C. Jones, Sr., was a collector of things. He grew up Ina Black community of Oklahoma and continued a tradition of bartering and trading for things when he moved to Los Angeles in the 1950’s. He met my mother, Virginia, my older sister, Jennifer, and my older brother, Frank, in 1960. In 1965, the year I was born in Watts, California, my father came across a copy of a then obscure Marvel comic book, X-men #1, and gave it to my seven year old brother.

That book inspired my brothers love for comics, and he and I amassed a massive collection of titles before his untimely death in 1995. I continued the tradition of collecting comics and other “needful thangs” which my younger brother, Tracy, would jokingly refer to as “the junk man’s tradition…

Later, when my wife Trish and I had children, we instilled in them the love for all things Imagination, the value of needful thangs, the power of literacy through storytelling and they became the little “Flukes- that were most important to us. Their future and the traditions we instilled were the origin of the Flukaverse!
